The Pro-port Process: Shotgun Porting

Not all shotgun shooters shoot the same... and not all shotgun porting works the same way. With over 43 years of experience in firearm porting using EDM (Electrical Discharge Machining) we're known as experts in shotgun porting services. Providing shooters high quality porting services, reduction in recoil, and muzzle lift, and also a choice in porting style to suit their needs.

There are two stages of perceived recoil when a shotgun is fired: the first is the result of primary ignition, the second the consequence of expanded propellant burn-off at the muzzle. The ports dissipate shock and, because of their design and placement, redirect muzzle energy to dramatically reduce muzzle lift. For the Shooter this translates into a reduction of perceived recoil of 15 to 20 percent and an average of 60 to 80 percent reduction in muzzle lift! Pro-Porting has proven effective on shotguns of all types, single, over/under, side-by-side, rifled, and slug barrels.

Many companies have entered the shotgun porting market over the years. Porting styles using similar methods and styles have flooded the market. Gunsmiths may offer porting done locally in an effort to attract shotgun shooters, in many cases dissatisfied customers of these imitators thought they were having their shotguns Pro-Ported! We urge every prospective Pro-Port customer to verify he is dealing with an authorized Pro-Port dealer. If you have any doubts, please call us or ship the barrels direct. Avoid disappointment and the expense of potentially ruined barrels - be certain you are dealing with Pro-Port Limited.

How Is It Done

Pro-Porting is accomplished with Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM), a surgically precise method of removing metal. The EDM process assures the shotgun owner of smooth incisions of exact dimension. There is no damage to the metal surrounding the ports. There are no machine marks, as would be the case subsequent to a drilling operation. In addition, there are no burrs in the bore to affect transition to choke area.

The Standard Pro-Port procedure consists of "cutting" eleven compound ellipsoidal ports into each side of a barrel These (similar to an oval) ports are placed behind the choke tube or constricted area in a series of two rows with six on the top and five on the bottom.

Our Pigeon Port design is an enhancement to the porting design consisting of five additional ports extending back from the top row of the Pro-Port pattern. This style of porting is recommended for shooters using 2 3/4 dram equivalent or higher loads. It provides up to an additional 5% reduction in recoil and is great for use with pressure first shot, doubles, and in flyer tournaments. The extra pigeon porting is not recommended for gas or recoil operated guns and is not available on barrels under 24 inches.

A Modified Pro-Port Style is used on shotguns equipped with barrel bands and magazine extensions. These combat or competition style shotguns are effectively tamed providing better control under conditions of maximum stress.

The Single Row of Pro-Ports consists of eleven ports in a single row. This style of porting is designed for the shotgunner focusing on muzzle lift reduction. Shooters using lighter loads will find the extended row of Pro-Ports extremely effective in keeping the barrel flat.

Why Pro-Port?

Pro-Port Limited has provided shooters superior service for years...
Our company was the first to introduce shotgun porting using Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) to the firearms industry over 43 years ago. Since that time other firms have entered the shotgun porting market claiming to be the "inventors" or "originators" using porting designs similar to those offered by Pro-Port or Mag-Na-Port for years.

Why Pro-Port? Ask yourself the following...

Could over 100,000 shotgun shooters be wrong?

Which porting process has been field tested by more shotgun shooters than any other?

If our process did not produce the results as we claim, why then are there so many imitations?

A WARNING

Since introduction of the PRO-PORT process (U.S. Patent No. 3808943) we have witnessed a proliferation of imitators anxious to cash in on what they perceived to be a "good thing". In many, many cases dissatisfied customers of these imitators thought they were having their shotguns Pro-Ported! We have examined a distressingly large number of shotguns which have been ported by unscrupulous and incompetent hacks, and in every case have had to advise owners the barrels were ruined.

We urge that every prospective PRO-PORT customer verify he is dealing with an authorized PRO-PORT dealer. If you have any doubts, please call the Company, or ship the barrels yourself.

Avoid disappointment and the expense of possibly ruined barrels - be certain you are dealing with PRO-PORT!
